Picture shows : On this China market live donkeys are being brutally slaughtered The shocking images show how people travelling home for the upcoming public holiday in China were guaranteed fresh donkey meat – after having the animals bashed over the head with a sledgehammer in front of them. Lines of donkeys were seen tethered to the roadside awaiting execution said that the meat could be instantly butchered and sold directly to passing motorists fetching around 10 GBP for a 1.5 kilo cut. The snaps were taken in China's northern Hebei province showing the donkeys tethered the side of the road, with strips of meat and parts of donkeys bodies sitting on bloodstained tables or hanging from poles. The animals that were killed were forced to the ground, and then while one of the men pulled the donkeys head forwards, the second belted it with the sledgehammer. Once it was unconscious, the donkey had his throat cut with the blood being collected in a cut in half plastic barrel. This pictures follow-on for snaps only last week showing a flourishing trade in roadside dog meat sales, with animals kept alive and fresh and being butchered to order from people who want to make sure they get a fresh cut. And businesses now been booming ever since people started heading back to their home towns for the Chinese New Year, and wanting to take a fresh meat gift with them for their relatives. Chinese animal rights activist Guo Li said: "The law stipulates that animals need to be killed in a hygienic and contamination free location to make sure the meat is safe for eating. Even on those grounds alone these roadside offenders should be arrested and locked up. But as you can see they are carrying out this sickening trade in broad daylight with nobody doing anything. "They argue that in many cases people are sold meat which is not fresh and slaughtering animals live guarantees that it is. In addition they argue that people know they're getting donkey meat because they can see it being cut off the bone in front of them." The snaps were reportedly taken in Baoding city and the activist said similar scenes were repeated with dogs and donkeys and other animals across the country, particularly at this time of year. He said: "There is no evidence that these animals don't have disease and in the case of the dogs they often simply snatched off the streets and butchered to order." Donkey meat is regarded as a delicacy and pictures much higher prices than other cuts, and by selling it fresh and killing the animals in front of them these fenders are ensuring they get the best price possible.
